Digital Collections

Government Documents
State Library of Ohio's government documents and reference collections include both circulating and non-circulating materials in a variety of formats. Examples include:

  • Atlases (i.e. The Official Military Atlas of the CIVIL WAR)
  • Congressional Records
  • House and Senate Journals (proceedings of action taken each day in session)
  • Maps: Complete set of United States Geological Survey (USGS) Topographical Maps
  • Military Rosters: Spanish-American, Civil War (known as War of the Rebellion at the time), WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam
  • Presidential Papers (i.e. speeches, proclamations)

A pathfinder is an expert guide for finding information on a topic on the web and within a library. It provides enough basic resources to get started, strategize for future searching, and saves time. The guide typically includes suggested search terms, book titles with call numbers, and websites.  Pathfinders are not comprehensive bibliographies.

Maps & Atlases

This Google map was created by the State Library of Ohio and displays exact locations which are known to be stops along the underground railroad in Ohio. Most locations were obtained from Wilbur H. Siebert's 1951 work, "Mysteries of the Ohio Underground Railroad". Locations with different citations are indicated and a website with further information is provided, if available.

  • David Rumsey Historical Map Collection
  • The David Rumsey Historical Map Collection focuses on 18th and 19th century North and South American cartographic materials. The collection includes atlases, globes, school geographies, maritime charts, and a variety of separate maps including pocket, wall, children's and manuscript maps.
