The State Library of Ohio is pleased to announce a new exhibit based on the U.S. Government Printing Office publication Keeping America Informed: 150 Years of Service to the Nation. The exhibit features a small sample of the many federal publications in the State Library of Ohio’s depository collections. The Federal Depository Library Program was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its Government’s information. The State Library of Ohio is the only full regional federal depository in Ohio and is also a depository for state information. The Government Information section of the State Library contains over 1 million publications, dating from the 1700′s to the present.
In 2011 the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) celebrated its 150th anniversary. The year-long celebration included an exhibit and book entitled Keeping America Informed: 150 Years of Service to the Nation. The exhibit featured publications, artifacts, and photographs highlighting the documents GPO produces, who the people of GPO are, and the technology and craftsmanship that combine to get the job done.
Special Presentation: George Barnum, Agency Historian, U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) will present at the State Library the afternoon of April 2, 2012 at 1:00 – 2:00. He coordinated the GPO’s 150th anniversary observances in 2011 including the publication of a new official history Keeping America Informed: The U.S. Government Printing Office 1861-2011: 150 Years of Service to the Nation and curated of the special exhibit of the same title. He will present information and images from the history of the GPO. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated but not required.
From Ohio, Barnum was Government Documents Librarian at Case Western Reserve University and taught in the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. He has been at the GPO’s Federal Depository Library Program since 1997 and became Historian in 2009.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. The State Library is located at 274 E. First Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. The library is open to the public 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday and closed on all state holidays.
