The Cost of Digital Publishing

08.31.12 | Comment?

From the Desk of …
Cheryl Lubow, Reference Librarian

Many assume that publishing an e-book is more lucrative for the publisher than when it is released in print. Karen Christensen, C.E.O. of Berkshire Publishing Group, has posted a commentary, Why Going Digital is Dangerous, Expensive, and Essential, to her Berkshire Blog. The piece was originally published in the 6/15/12 issue of Library Journal. She lists factors that I wouldn’t have considered before reading her op-ed piece. One example is online support. Libraries that are open late and readers who purchase e-books in a Far East time zone need 24-hour support. I learn something new every day from our professional journals.
