Choose to Read Ohio - Special Grant

Choose to Read Ohio LogoChoose to Read Ohio (CTRO) is a project of the State Library of Ohio designed to promote reading across Ohio. We hope to connect children, families, and all Ohioans in the experience of sharing literature together.

CTRO spotlights Ohio authors and promotes reading across Ohio. The State Library of Ohio, in partnership with Ohioana Library Association, developed this initiative to encourage Ohioans of all ages to share literature by authors native to, residing in, or associated with Ohio.  CTRO is adaptable for use in classrooms, libraries, bookstores, by book discussion groups, families, and other community groups.

CTRO encourages Ohioans to Read Together, Read Ohio, and Read for Life.

Book titles, discussion questions and additional resources for each book, and promotional items can all be found at: http://library.ohio.gov/ctro

IMLS LSTA Special Grant

One of the objectives of the new LSTA Five-Year Plan 2013-2017 is to review and revise all LSTA grant categories and the sub-award process.  Staff has begun a timeline to review grant programs over the next year.  The Choose to Read Ohio grants are the first to be evaluated.  The CTRO program is moving forward with the 2013 and 2014 booklist.  The 2013 and 2014 titles are listed here: http://library.ohio.gov/blog/?p=2751.  For the LSTA CTRO grants, funding for the 2011 and 2012 titles is no longer available; the next round of grants would have been for the 2013 and 2014 titles.  State Library staff believes that the shift to the new title list is a logical time to suspend the CTRO grants while the process is reviewed and the impact of the grants is evaluated.  We hope you will continue to use the CTRO titles and toolkits in your programming.  Toolkits for the 2013 and 2014 titles will be completed and posted in fall 2012.
