All regional libraries offer library-specific Continuing Education workshops and trainings. Additional services vary slightly among the four regions. NORWELD also provides networking opportunities; vendor discounts; resource sharing; technology expertise, assistance and recommendations; coordination of efforts on group projects for special services in the region; links between local community resources and those of the state and nation; and library management expertise.  You can view an “About Us” video on their website that features the programs and services NORWELD provides its members.

Current NORWELD collaborations, projects and initiatives include "My War: Northwest Ohioans Remember World War II", a web exhibit about World War II with over 140 oral history interviews conducted in the region; The “Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center: Ohio Obituary Index”, a web-based index that is maintained with over 1.5 million obituary, death, and marriage notices from Ohio from the 1810s to the present day; “Document Digitization”, a regional document digitization project; and Open Source website development and hosting using Drupal.

A recent event hosted by NORWELD was the Summer Reading workshop on March 4 at the Brugeman Lodge in scenic Riverbend Park near Findlay.  Over 80 attendees enjoyed presentations on programming, decorations, school visits, crafts and activities for library summer reading programs.  Attendees also brought crafts and display ideas to share.  This was a high-energy, high-creativity day for children’s library staff to plan for the “Make a Splash” summer reading program.

It’s been over a year since NORWELD began working with a number of their member libraries to develop Drupal websites.  Using Drupal makes it easier for libraries to maintain their content while implementing more Library/Web 2.0 capabilities than ever before. NORWELD has developed a Drupal training workshop to facilitate site transition and updating. You can learn more about Drupal, the open source website publishing framework, by watching the 20 min video tutorial created by NORWELD.

During these difficult economic times, membership in NORWELD helps libraries provide the best programs and services within their budgets.
