So, what does that mean for Library X in Ohio? It means that by being a contributing/enhanced member your staff can attend CE events sponsored by any other Regional at the contributing membership rate. So, along with attending CE events at your own Regional at these lower rates, perhaps you see online workshops available at another Regional that would be great for your new staffer. As a contributing member of your Regional, that person can register at the contributing rate. These discounts are usually at least 50-60% off the non-member rates. Or, if you want to send all of your staff to a symposium that is being offered in multiple locations, by being a contributing member you can send ½ to Regional A and ½ to Regional B – ensuring both coverage and education. The breadth of CE opportunities offered by the Regional Library Systems is immense – from youth services to management/administration to practical applications of databases and computer skills. In SFY09, the Regional Library Systems offered 392 CE events. A contributing member of any Regional could have taken advantage of any of these events at the contributing member rate. A small investment to become a contributing/enhanced member could have a huge return in the area of staff education. |

Professional development opportunities are some of the primary benefits of belonging to a Regional Library System. But what about that “perfect” Continuing Education (CE) event that a staff member wishes to attend that is not offered by your Regional but is offered by another Regional? One of the often overlooked membership benefits is that a member of any Regional can attend a CE event at any other Regional at the contributing member rate.
