As a private university library, however, it is closed to the general public.  Please note that visitors to the law building must present identification and sign-in at the security station at the south entrance.

The mission of the Capital University Law Library is to select, to provide, and to preserve for its students and faculty all of the primary and secondary sources of the law that are reasonably necessary both for the curriculum of the law school and for the scholarly endeavors its faculty.  It is also an additional but subordinate goal to select and to make available, given the ever-tighter constraints of budget and space, other legal and scholarly materials which, although less essential for coursework or scholarship, are nonetheless desirable for the educational atmosphere that becomes a law school community.

The law library holds more than a quarter-million volumes and volume-equivalents in legally-related materials on site, and it maintains licenses for its students and faculty to use many online legal databases, such as Westlaw, Lexis, BNA All, CCH Intelliconnect, and Hein Online, etc.  The law library is a member of the OHIOLink consortium.

The law library is housed on three separate floors of the law building and occupies approximately 38,000 square feet with approximately 30,000 linear feet of shelving.  The law library has a small staff --only 5.67 FTE professional librarians and 4 FTE paraprofessionals, but a large number of primary patrons—approximately 650 FTE law students and 32 faculty members!

During the academic year the law library is generally open on Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Sundays 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  The library’s reference office is generally open Monday through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Please note that our hours dovary during school holidays and intercessions, and changes in hours are posted on the law library website and the bulletin boards outside the library.  For more information about the Capital University Law Library, please visit our website at www.law.capital.edu/library/.
