Congratulating Columbus Metropolitan Library

Passed by the State Library Board on July 22, 2010

WHEREAS, the Columbus Metropolitan Library has been providing library services to the residents of Central Ohio for more than 125 years; and

WHEREAS, the Columbus Metropolitan is one of the most well-used libraries in the United States, where customers borrowed 16 million items, made 8.2 million visits, and asked 1.2 million reference questions last year; and

WHEREAS, the Columbus Metropolitan Library has garnered national recognition including being recognized as a 5-Star Library by Library Journal and being awarded the #1 ranking in its class by Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings; and

WHEREAS, the Columbus Metropolitan Library has earned the national 2010 Library Journal/Gale Cengage Learning Library of the Year Award  for demonstrating excellence in service to the community; creativity and innovation in developing specific community programs or a dramatic increase in usage; and leadership in creating programs that can be emulated by others;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on this day, July 22, 2010, the State Library Board expresses its gratitude and appreciation for the Columbus Metropolitan Library and congratulates them on being named Library of the Year.
