On Just One Day in Ohio....
-
437 sessions in one day through Ohio’s online virtual reference service KnowItNow24x7
-
Ohio libraries circulate approximately one million items a day.
-
Statewide electronic resources were accessed approximately 50,000 times on Snapshot Day.
-
Ohioans have access to 304 uniquely searchable databases every day.
-
Ohio public libraries download about 6 terabytes (TBs) from the Internet on a typical day. That's the equivalent of about 4.4 million floppy disks, or 500,000 phone books.
Between November 13 and 19, 2011 all types of libraries across Ohio participated in the American Library Association's Snapshot Day initiative. It was the first time in Ohio that public, school, academic, and special libraries joined together for Snapshot Day. Each participating library selected one day during the week to take photographs, track usage, and collect stories and comments from their patrons. We had 233 Ohio Libraries participate by either completing the survey or uploading photos to Flickr, or both.
191 Libraries participated in the survey including:
-
15 Academic Libraries
-
21 Public Libraries
-
153 School Libraries
-
2 Special Libraries

Ohio library representatives shared this Results flyer during appointments with policy makers at National Legislative Day. We also mailed it to all members of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate.
