Medication Costs
Ohio’s Best Rx is designed to lower the cost of prescriptions for Ohio residents without prescription drug insurance coverage.
The Affordable Benefits Coalition, a part of Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development, helps senior citizens get low-cost prescription drugs.
Health Insurance
OSHIIP provides free unbiased information and counseling to people covered by Medicare.
The Ohio Benefit Bank connects Ohioans with a variety of available programs, including Medicare Premium Assistance, Extra Help for Medicare Part D, and Food Assistance. You can call 1-800-648-1176 to find a counselor near you who can assist you with your applications, or visit www.ohiobenefits.org to check your eligibility and complete applications on your own!
Senior Services
The twelve Ohio Area Agencies on Aging work with public and private partners to respond to unique needs of older citizens and families in their areas to help them Ohioans age 60 and over to live as independently as possible.
Transportation
In rural areas, 47 percent of those using public transportation are seniors and people with disabilities. Ohio transit systems provide mobility in both urban and rural areas.

20,000 businesses statewide voluntarily offer special savings thru the Golden Buckeye Program.
Employment Training
Experience Works operates a Senior Community Service Employment Program in several Ohio counties to help low-income seniors get the training they need to find jobs in their local communities.
Tax Counseling
Tax-Aide, sponsored by ARP provides free income tax preparation services to middle and low-income elderly taxpayers.
Energy Assistance Programs
Ohio Department of Development programs: Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP), Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP), Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP), and the
Electric Partnership Program (PIPP) can help eligible seniors with the high cost of heating and cooling their homes.
Reduce Property Tax Burden
Ohio’s Homestead Exemption allows seniors and totally disabled Ohioans to reduce their property tax burden by shielding some of the market value of their home from taxation.
Food
Assistance with food purchases is provided by the Federal Food Stamp program through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Long-term Care Ombudsmen advocate for people receiving home care, assisted living and nursing home care.
